According to the Carteret County Humane Society, a disturbing trend has been on the rise over the past few years. Once hunting season is over, the shelter sees a big increase in abandoned hunting dogs, many of who were just set free. "After hunting season, we do unfortunately get dogs that were either lost in the woods or hunters would no longer want to keep the dogs because they either don't hunt or they're too old. So they let them loose and we end up getting they as strays," said Rachel Hardin, shelter manager.
