Best known for his role as Keith Patridge on the series The Patridge Family, the 66-year-old David Cassiday revealed he is battling dementia. He recently told PEOPLE magazine that he is struggling with memory loss on a daily basis.
Sadly, this disease runs in his family. Both his grandfather and mother succumbed to the disease. Cassidy witnessed his grandfather and mother "disappear" into the depths of dementia. In his interview with PEOPLE, he told them that when he was diagnosed he "was in denial, but a part of [him] knew this was coming." His mother passed away at the age of 89. When she was battling the disease, Cassidy stated that "In the end, the only way I knew she recognized me is with one single tear that would drop from her eye every time I walked into the room…I feared I would end up that way."
The singer had also been an active supporter of the Alzheimer's Association. In order to raise money for the charity, he has auctioned off old costumes.

Cassidy and his team have made the decision to stop touring and concentrate on his health. He noted, "I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I've been without any distractions. I want to love. I want to enjoy life." Within the past years, Cassidy has noticed a decline in his memory. During a show in Agoura Hills, California, he reported struggled to remember the lyrics to his own songs. During a show over the weekend, TMZ posted a video of the singer struggling to stay balanced and recall lyrics.
Sadly, this news comes along with a series of hardships for the performer over the years. In 2010, 2013, and 2014 he was arrested and charged with multiple DUIs. After his third arrest, his wife, Sue Shifrin Cassidy, filed for a divorce. A year later, the actor filed for bankruptcy, put his house up for sale, and then was involved in a hit-and-run.
