On February 24, 1975, Led Zeppelin released their sixth album, the first on their own Swan Song record label – “Physical Graffiti”. It wasn’t just an album, it was a masterpiece of rock.
This double album, almost an hour and a half of material, was a commercial and critical success, selling more than 8 million copies in the U.S. to be certified 16 times platinum. The original artwork, with the iconic NYC tenement block, featured a die-cut cover and various inserts, was nominated for a Grammy in 1976 for best album package. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have both said that they felt the band was creatively and sonically at its peak on this album.
“Physical Graffiti” has been consistently ranked as one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary all weekend long and into Monday – we’ll be spotlighting all of the tracks from the album, as well as what went into the recording of them.
