The Blessing Project began in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, when Swananoa resident Kristen Hicks started volunteering in her area. A friend offered a truckload of donations, and the Blessing Barn was born. A small shed of donated essentials has now grown into a nonprofit dedicated to restoring dignity, normalcy, and joy to communities facing hardship. The Blessing Barn is open three days a week in Swananoa, and in January, Hicks acquired a “Blessing Bus”, which travels to provide essential goods and volunteer services, in Buncombe County and surrounding areas. The vision of The Blessing Project is belief in a world where no one faces hardship alone. Where every community has access to essential resources and opportunities, empowering individuals to thrive.
