Movember

Movember

Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average six years earlier than women, and for largely preventable reasons. Prostate cancer rates will double over the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. And across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 60% of all suicides.

This is why WSFL has teamed up with Movember  – to stop men from dying too young. By 2030, Movember aims to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25%.

We’ve created a Movember page where you can make a donation and help make a difference.

GET THE FACTS

Movember is the leading global men’s health charity. The charity raises funds to deliver innovative, breakthrough research and support programs that enable men to live happier, healthier and longer lives. Millions have joined the movement, helping fund over 1,250 projects focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention. In addition to tackling key health issues, Movember is working to encourage men to stay healthy in all areas of their life, with a focus on men staying socially connected and becoming more open to discussing their health and significant moments in their lives.

Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men in the US. Know the facts and take action early. The difference between early detection and late detection can be life and death. When detected early, prostate cancer survival rates are better than 98%. Find it late, and those survival rates drop below 26%. If you’re 50, you should be talking to your doctor about PSA testing, it’s a simple routine blood test. Men who are African American, and men who have a family history (a brother or father with prostate cancer), are 2.5x more likely to get prostate cancer, so do it at 45.

In the United States, testicular cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in young men. Check yourself! If you notice a change in size or shape, a lump that wasn’t there before, or if they become painful to touch, see a doctor. Don’t panic, but do get it checked out.

Globally, every minute, a man dies by suicide. In the United States, 75% of suicides are men. Most of us say we’d be there for our friends if they need us. Most of us also say that we feel uncomfortable asking friends for help.
